Cost: $3000 for five days
Classes will be held over five days in a remote part of East Arnhem Land called Gikal, people who attend this class will be transported and accommodated there by a large motor yacht and all needs will be catered for ie; all meals and amenities. You will have as much time with the family as you require not only for Yidaki but for social interaction and relationship building. Their are limited place's for these classes so book early to avoid disappointment
Djalu Gurruwiwi and his family invite you to their homeland, Gikal in North-East Arnhem Land, a small settlement on a tropical beach overlooking the Arafura Sea, for the Yidaki Masterclass.
This is an intensive and intimate program where you will learn about the cultural foundations and significance of the yidaki (didgeridoo) and the art of yidaki making and playing while immersed in a Yolngu cultural experience in one of the remotest and most beautiful parts of Australia.
Djalu, leader and elder of the Galpu clan, shares the secrets that have earned him the reputation as the world’s foremost yidaki craftsman and player, as he guides you in the art of yidaki craftsmanship. You will make your own yidaki and receive expert tuition in how to bring it to life.
As a guest of Djalu and his family, you will experience traditional Yolngu life and interact with Yolngu people who will generously share their ancient knowledge, language, traditions and culture.
This is a rare opportunity to learn from an exceptional craftsman who has an almost cult- like following amongst musicians, yidaki collectors and enthusiasts around the world.
